Performance Theater

We had our "performance theater" on Friday. All of the classes did really well, but Moose class (Myriam's KG5) ended up winning. I got a video of Arctic Fox (Jay's class) and Seal (my class) singing their songs. We also announced the winners of the monthly coloring contest. Two of my kids won the "bronze medal."

Buddhist Temple

This is a temple that I pass by when I walk (although lately I've been taking the bus or a cab) to work. I was finally able to explore the inside of it this weekend.

Springtime!

We are finally experiencing spring weather here! I took some pictures this past week during my walk to work. I also discovered some hiking trails above the park that I pass by on the way.

Clubbing Experience in Seoul

Myriam, Kathryn, Dan, Jay, Steven, and I went out to celebrate Myriam's birthday. We took the bus to Seoul, and the bus driver drove way too fast. Thankfully we all made it there safely! I was a bit disappointed in the two dance clubs we ended up in; there were a lot of foreigners in both, they were playing mostly '90s hip-hop/rap, and of course they were very smokey. But, at least I got some dancing in! Believe it or not, I am kind of over the "going out" stage. I think it is something I will do only a handful of times in the year that I'm here (like once every birthday--uh-oh, Dan's is coming up in a few days). Maybe next time Jay and I can convince the group to go to a Salsa Club...

Aquarium in Seoul

It was a rainy Saturday so we decided to make our way to Seoul on the subway. Jay, Steven, Myriam, and I went to the Aquarium for the day. Even though it was kind of a long subway ride (about an hour and a half), it was worth it to get out of Ilsan and see a different part of Korea. I think we will be going to Seoul more often. The Aquarium had a lot of cool fish, penguins, and a two-headed turtle. Plus, the translated signs were entertaining :-)

My Students

These were taken on St. Patrick's Day, which is why most of my students are wearing green. Normally the majority of them would wear their Maplebear uniforms. We celebrate all Canadian holidays and in addition all of the birthdays that are in the same month on the same school day, usually around mid month. All of my students are already considered seven years old because in Korea they turn seven on January 1st regardless of what month they were actually born in. However, we are still celebrating the months they were born in throughout the school year. Also, Koreans are one year old when they are born, and turn two years old on what we would consider the "first birthday." So by our age calculation my students would be 5-6 years old rather than 7 years old.
Aren't they cute?
